The mind of a child is a beginner’s mind, and, for them, every idea is fresh, stimulating, and leads somewhere surprising.

Out of the Mud (OM) Theatre

Since 2011, OM Theatre creates puppets and masks for theatrical experiences, delivering cultural and artistic benefits to the wide community of the Roaring Fork Valley and Beyond. We blend visual arts with performance arts to explore the eternal aspects of our common human condition, to delight in the age old art of storytelling, as well as to delve into the contemporary issues of our distinct moment in time. With a commitment to Beauty, Experimentation, Natural and Found Materials, and Joy (lots of joy!), we have joined with the community to create vibrant art that brings our audiences Out of the Mud and into the cosmic realm of positive change.

We see ourselves as irrelevant without the support and contribution of our community. In the process of re-imagining our world through puppet theater, we look to the community to inspire us, to create with us, to collectively rise to our potential, and to share their many talents. In return, we hope to contribute to the language of a thriving community by promoting art that has a unique ability to heal, celebrate, transcend, and inspire!

Why Puppets?

Hewn from mud, scraps of cloth, paper, cornstarch, bamboo, and stardust, puppets allow us create beauty from the banal - enabling us to explore the song of everyday life with handmade splendor and wit. For centuries, puppets and masks have been used to perform simple stories and myths that convey complex themes with stunning visual and emotional effect. We revel in continuing that tradition.

OM puppets are birthed from tiny spiral glimmers in the night sky. They emerge from our hands out of the mud and the pulp and the plants and the light to tell stories that elevate us out of the mucky muck of our every day routines and into the dazzling shine of a child’s mind, universal connection, and wonder.
